During this time, police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. On the other hand, the protesters threw fireworks and other objects at the police. Protesters are attempting to gather in small processions.
Many protesters were seen wearing masks and hoodies. A large number of riot police have been deployed on various roads and intersections in Paris to restrain them.
Local media BFM TV reported that a tourist office in Lyon was set on fire.
The Associated Press reported that calls to revive the 'Yellow Vest' movement had been circulating on social media for several days. Following this, a nationwide protest was called today.
In 2018, the Yellow Vest movement spread across France. This movement was against social inequalities.
On the other hand, the new movement started in mid-September of this year. It was initiated by the country's students, who began protesting against plans to cut the education budget and demanding improvements in school environments.
France's major trade union, CGT, has expressed support for today's protests. They have called for increased wages and pensions for ordinary people, reduction of commodity prices according to public demand, and enhancement of public services.
Meanwhile, nearly 100 protesters have been arrested in Paris so far. Earlier, almost two thousand protesters were arrested during the movement that started in September. -Source: AP
